Job Summary
The Construction Manager provides management and direction of utility construction activities. Project work includes project management, resource allocation, equipment management, and utility construction. Duties performed are associated with human resources, payroll, accounting, and administrative functions. This position supports the Construction team and works with field personnel, senior operations management, and customers
Responsibilities
Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring all workers comply with OSHA regulations and company safety principles and policies.
Conduct regular site inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards, fostering a zero-incident work environment.
Lead safety training sessions and meeting to maintain a culture of safety awareness.
Oversee daily operations of construction teams, ensuring effective coordination and communication among crew members, subcontractors, and vendors.
Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, maintaining clear and proactive communication.
Address customer questions, concerns, and feedback promptly to ensure high levels of satisfaction and trust.
Responsible for the overall financial performance of construction operations, ensuring profitability and adherence to budgetary goals.
Provide accurate financial forecast and updates to senior leadership, including projections for revenue, expenses, and resource needs.
Participate in the hiring process and maintain all employment related paperwork (i.e. new hire paperwork, separation paperwork, employment data changes, etc.).
Prepare and interpret drawings, graphs, maps, blueprints, bid documents, contracts, proposals, and specifications.
Identify and supervise subcontractors to perform their tasks, inspect, and/or bill any relevant personnel/contractors.
Take responsibility for all personnel and any vehicles or equipment in their control.
Participate in estimating and bidding projects, contract negotiations, and change order preparation.
Coordinate and oversee efforts during storm-related events, including potential travel to affected areas, while ensuring safety compliance and effective resource allocation.
Qualifications
Minimum
Associate degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
5 years of relevant experience in construction management, including oversight of crews and project financials.
OSHA 20 Certification.
Strong understanding of construction processes, safety regulations, and project management.
Proven ability to lead and mentor diverse teams, fostering a culture of safety and collaboration.
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering.
10 years of experience in construction management, with a focus on electrical utility projects (e.g., substations and distribution systems)
Advanced knowledge of electrical systems, grid operations, and utility infrastructure construction.
Experience managing budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
